Abstract

The search for peace has been one of the primary preoccupations of mankind. Old as this search is, in terms of human objective and as a social process, the patterned academic study of peace has come quite late compared with other fields of academic endeavour. Even though peace studies and conflict research is a latecomer into the social sciences and academics generally, it may be said, at the moment, that the
field has come of age, especially in the developed world. It is, however, still greeted with obscurity, caution, confusion, and backwardness in most of Africa.
